GMA Architects and Planners was solicited to design 4 structures to fully occupying a lot located at SW 10th Place and SW Pine Island Rd in Cape Coral FL. The City of Cape Coral design guidlines strongly favor contemporary style buildings, which guided the predominant rectangular massing, smooth surfaces and tall glass fenestrations. As only the shells were in scope, they were all 4 designed with similar unifying features including stucco cladding, water table, tall hurricane resistant storefronts, and shaded entrances.
To address the arrangement on site, 3 smaller structures front a larger building in the rear and are bookended by reverse battered corners. The trio bear similar features to the longer rearward building having their collective façade broken up using bump outs, porches, flat awnings and setbacks coupled with elevation changes along the parapet to create a balanced variety through an interesting montage of texture and color. Sides of the end buildings are augmented with extended height pilasters, bolstered corners, and accent lighting.
